Letter to the Tooth Fairy
As some of you may remember reading, Max-Ay lost his tooth the other day when Uncle Noonie pulled it out. If you don't, you can read about it .
Anyway, as you can see in the letter, Max-Ay didn't put the tooth under his pillow for the tooth fairy because he went to spend the night at his uncle's house. By the time he got back, we couldn't find the tooth and forgot about the whole thing for a few days.
So last night, he starts getting concerned. Says that the tooth fairy hasn't come yet and asks what should he do, because he doesn't have the tooth! I suggest writing a letter explaining the situation and tell him that I hope she understands.
So he writes the letter, no help from Mom & Dad whatsoever, and sticks it under his pillow.
He goes to sleep, and Mom & Dad got to bed. I find out I might be the highest bidder on e-bay for a new Nikon Coolpix 8800 Digital Camera and completely forget about the tooth. Papa D does too, because once 8 pm rolls around, his lights automatically shut out!
This morning Max-Ay wakes up and searches and searches under and around the pillow for the cash. No cash. Nada/nothing. He can't find it. He seems frustrated and quite disappointed and I know I've let him down. Right about then, Papa D gives me a good morning hug and I whisper some directions in his ear.
Papa D disappears and soon some tape can be heard being torn off in the distance. I guess what is happening.....
At breakfast, Papa D asks Max to get the letter, because he didn't know anything about it and hadn't read it yet. As Max-Ay walks past me in the kitchen w/ a grumpy look on his face, I can see $1 (yes, we're cheapskates!) taped to the back of his letter. The kid doesn't notice a thing...his thoughts are on disappointment.
Seeing that Max-Ay knows nothing yet, Papa D very seriously says, "Let me read this letter. I didn't even know you wrote the tooth fairy a letter."
Papa D then, very conspicuously, holds the letter w/ the back facing Max-Ay.
"Dad, No Way, a $1!! How did that happen? The tooth fairy must have taped the $1 to the back of the letter. I don't know how I didn't see it! I looked and looked and looked for minutes and minutes!"
Papa D & I meet eyes and grin. Oh, to be 7 again!
Oh my God - Did this bring back memories! This story brought a tear to my eye - well, Max-Ay's letter did, it was adorable. You guys are on the ball!
ReplyDeleteP.S.
I don't think you guys are cheap for leaving a dollar. Just my opinion.
What a great story! I bet he'll tell that one to his kids one day.
ReplyDeleteGood save! And I don't think 1$ is cheap at all! What a fast-thinking mommy!
ReplyDeleteoh... lovingest story ever! so sweeet. so innocent of a child. i can just imagine the face when he saw the $1. :)
ReplyDeleteFriends-
ReplyDeleteThanks friends! I sure hope he will. He was questioning whether or not the tooth fairy was real before that, so we'll see if this incident turned him into a non-believer!! The other top one is loose so we won't have long to wait to find out about that!
