Meyer D's field trip to Chief Lelooska
Well we went, yesterday was the big field trip day to Chief Lelooska for an hour long performance of song and dance with tribal costumes that included masks. Chief Lelooska carved these himself before he passed away in 1996. I woke up with a migraine that took over 2 hrs. to get rid of and thought I wasn't going to be able to go. Hallelujah I began to feel better right before it was time to leave.
Trust me, I'd rather be home if I am feeling crappy, but I DID NOT want to miss out on this, so I was so greatful to start feeling better. Today was a different story, but I won't get into that!
Anyway, I went when I was my daughter's age and I think that must have been where I fell in love with Native American stories, songs and dance as well as jewelry and art.
I think I should have a totem in my yard. I would love that. My favorite designs are the orca and the salmon. I bought a red shirt with a black orca design on it. If you click the photo or the link you can see the rest of the pictures from the day as well as me in my shirt.
Beware, I've gained a few lbs. again and need to start watchin' it!
Ariel, Washington, where this is located, is home to the Chief Lelooska program, general store, Merwin Dam and supposedly the infamous site of the DB Cooper hijacking. It is located on the Lewis River and is about 40 min. from my home.
It was such a blessing to be able to go, and I will treasure it for a long time. I hope my husband will attend with Max-Ay in a few years!

That's a cool totem pole!
I went through a phase in high school when I was into everything Native American. At the time my family thought I was crazy, but through some research it ended up being discovered that we're part Native American (on my Mom's side). It must have been something in the blood calling me! :)
ooo... looks like fun. i love cultural arts and stuff. each one carries a unique story to tell and so facinating and magical.
